Unique Ways Companies Are Celebrating Earth Day
Even though we recycle on a daily basis, we dedicate a special day each year to bringing awareness to the critical issues facing our planet: Earth Day
As a business, this is an opportune time of year to remind your employees, fans, or customers about your sustainability mission. If you don't have one, this is the ideal time to launch one!

We wanted to share with you some examples of companies who are thinking outside the box to promote sustainability for Earth Day. We hope you are as inspired as we are by how they are choosing to repurpose their materials into eco-friendly, branded products and making them useful long past Earth Day.
The LA Galaxy is California’s professional soccer team and also the first MLS franchise to win five MLS Cups when they won MLS Cup 2014. Based in Los Angeles, they are well known for having signed the high-scoring player David Beckham from 2007-2012, but these days, the team is making quite a name for themselves for their sustainability efforts.
One issue the team supports is water conservation. In 2016, the LA Galaxy joined the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to bring awareness to the issue when cities were faced with a growing population and shrinking local groundwater supplies.
The LA Galaxy is also part of Protect the Pitch, a club-wide environmental sustainability initiative that focuses on reducing the environmental impact of LA Galaxy games and practices at StubHub Center, supporting environmental projects in the community, and inspiring their fans to help create healthier, more sustainable communities.
Raising Funds for LA Galaxy Foundation
To bring awareness of Earth Day, they’ve taken their vinyl banner and upcycled them into beach totes and loose change purses. They will be debuting the repurposed item for fans at their Earth Day Game on April 23rd when they take on the Seattle Sounders and will be available online at their Foundation Store.
Funds from items sold will benefit the LA Galaxy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to helping children through educational, health and soccer based initiatives and programs, and Protect the Pitch.
The Portland Timbers are Portland, Oregon’s professional soccer club that also competes in the Western Conference of the MLS.
This soccer team scores a lot of points when it comes to sustainability! Relan became partners with the team in 2015 and we have enjoyed creating unique items for the team and their fans ever since.

The Staples Center is a world renowned performance venue that belongs to AEG, a global leader of sports and entertainment presenters. In 2010, AEG debuted AEG 1EARTH, an industry-leading environmental sustainability program featuring the industry's first sustainability report.
On March 25, 2017, the company participated in World Wildlife Fund’s grassroots Earth Hour which was designed to bring awareness and engage millions of people around the world on climate change.
On social media, their Twitter account, @AEG1EARTH, promoted the event with hashtag #GoDark and asked people to share photos of their experience.
At precisely 8:30 PM in their respective local time, 68 stadiums, arenas, theatres, clubs, convention centers, and teams in the AEG organization in seven countries, went dark for one hour.
The mission of AEG 1EARTH is to reduce the company's environmental impact and drive business value through sustainability. This year, one way AEG is celebrating Earth Day is by keeping their vinyl banners from going to the landfill and transforming them into employee-engaging items.
AEG reached out Relan to create special LA Lakers totes for the team’s Human Resource department.
Sony Pictures produces, acquires and distributes filmed entertainment (theatrical motion pictures, television programs, and recorded videos) through multiple platforms.
Picturing A Greener World
As the producer of the hilarious animated adventure comedy, The Angry Birds Movie. Sony upcycled the movie’s colorful vinyl movie banners as well as A Greener World banners and other Sony banners to keep them from going to the landfills. Since Red, the leader of the “Angry Birds” mobile game characters, was recognized by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in 2016 as the official honorary “Ambassador of Green” for International Day of Happiness and into Earth Month, these banners seemed fitting to create eco-friendly products.
